Extra pumps to curb flooding in Bandra

June 15, 2018 12:37 am | Updated 12:37 am IST - Mumbai

The Railways and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will install more pumps at Chamdavadi nullah to ensure that Bandra Railway Colony and Jay Bharat Society are not waterlogged.

The BMC and Railways have already widened and desilted the nullah. “We had requested the BMC to install more pumps at Chamdavadi nullah and they have agreed to add one more. We have requested three more,” said DRM (Mumbai), Western Railway, Sanjay Mishra. At present, the BMC has installed four pumps.

The pumps will ensure that excess water from two culverts from the societies drains into the nullah.

According to railway officials, the BMC was supposed to raise a pipeline before the monsoon. “We have cleaned the nullahs but the pipeline is obstructing the flow of water and may result in waterlogging,” said a senior railway official. The official said the BMC, in a recent meeting, said it will raise the pipeline after the monsoon.
