Engineer held for raping minor for three years

Posted obscene pictures on social media

Sanpada police have arrested a 30-year-old IT engineer for allegedly raping a Class XII student for over three years.

The accused, identified as Daniel Charles Vrat, is a resident of Sion and works in a company at Thane. The police said that Mr. Vrat was a friend of the victim’s neighbour and soon became friends with the victim in 2014. Senior Police Inspector Suraj Padvi said, “The duo was in a relationship, but when the victim wanted to end ties, the accused posted her obscene pictures on social media. He demanded ₹60,000 to take down the pictures.”

The victim then approached Sanpada police and registered a case. The accused was arrested under Sections 376 (rape) of the IPC and sections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the IT Act. He been remanded in judicial custody.
