Eight-hour megablock at Parel today

An eight-hour megablock will be imposed from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m at Parel station on Sunday to complete work on the new platform. The work scheduled for last Sunday was postponed owing to forecast of heavy rain.

Slow trains starting from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus will be diverted to the fast line between Byculla and Matunga.

The new Platform 1A is expected to reduce the load on the old platform at Parel. All down trains will be directed to the new platform. As a temporary arrangement, three metal decks will connect the old and new platform.

Central Railway (CR) officials said the measure was taken as the new platform is only connected via the new foot overbridge, which has no access to Elphinstone Road station and the old platform.

A senior CR official said, “Commuters heading to Elphinstone Road will have to access the bridge from the old platform. Once Western Railway (WR) completes work on its section of the new foot overbridge, we will remove the metal decks.” WR officials said they were hoping to finish work by June 25.
