Navi Mumbai: The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), under the Centre’s Muskaan-3 drive, has rescued eight child labourers from six restaurants in APMC. “We found that the children under the age of 14 were made to do jobs like cleaning, washing utensils, and serving customers. While some of them were paid ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 per month, some were paid nothing, but given food and shelter,” said senior police inspector Anand Chavan from AHTU.
The restaurant owners identified as Pravin Kotyayan from Sector 22, Turbhe, Hanumant Kisan Urumkar from Pune, Krishna Gauda from Sector 6, Ghansoli, Sanjay Tukaram Yenpure from Sector 16, Koparkhairane, Manikumar Ambadi from Sector 20, Turbhe, and Raviraj Shetty from Bonkode, Koparkhairane, were arrested. They were arrested under Sections 75 and 79 of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and Sections 3 and 3 (A) of the Child Labour Act 1986, and handed over to the APMC police.
“Of the eight rescued, five are from Uttar Pradesh and three from Bihar. Pratham Mumbai Education Foundation, an NGO, is contacting their parents,” said sub inspector Sanjay Kshirsagar.
