Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday approached the special CBI court seeking custody of Indrani Mukerjea in connection with a money laundering case related to INX Media, which is partly owned by her. The ED’s has obtained a production warrant from a Delhi court to interrogate Ms. Mukerjea.

In May, the CBI had registered a case alleging irregularities in granting Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance to INX Media during the tenure of P. Chidambaram as Union Finance Minister. Two days later, the ED initiated a probe. The CBI has been asked to file its reply. The matter will be heard next week. Ms. Mukerjea is expected to depose from jail via videoconferencing.

In the Sheena Bora murder trial, defence lawyer Sudeep Pasbola continued to grill Indrani’s driver Shyamvar Rai, who is approver-turned-prosecution witness, on if he had told anyone about the conspiracy to kill Sheena.

Meanwhile, the Bombay HC directed the CBI court to consider n a month a plea to make available the case diary in the Arms Act case involving Mr. Rai. Co-accused Peter Mukerjea had filed a plea seeking the diary.
