Mumbai: The Shivaji Park police, investigating the alleged cheating and exploitation of a 35-year-old divorcee by Dadar resident Dilip Ugale, are looking for a foreign national, who is likely to be arrested.

Inquiries revealed that Mr. Ugale (38) made the victim sleep with the foreigner during the time that he was married to her, officials said on Saturday.

Mr. Ugale, a share broker, was arrested earlier this week after the victim filed a complaint alleging that he had hidden his previous marriage from her, cheated her to the tune of ₹2.5 crore, and sexually exploited her. The victim has also said that he made her sleep with several people on different occasions over the five years.

“We have found out that Mr. Ugale had taken the victim to Pune, where he made her sleep with a foreign national in exchange for money. We have some leads about this man and are working on to identify and trace him, so that he can be booked,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Deshmukh, Dadar division.

Mr. Ugale, who has been remanded in police custody till Tuesday, is being interrogated.

Meanwhile, inquiries have revealed that Mr. Ugale used the money that he took from the victim to have a lavish lifestyle. “Mr. Ugale invested around ₹54 lakh in real estate. He also bought a membership for an upmarket gym. We are finding out what he did with the rest of the money,” said Mr. Deshmukh.

The police said that Mr. Ugale’s first wife did not know about his marriage and subsequent actions, and only learned about it when a team was sent to his residence to locate him earlier this year after the victim regisered an FIR.
