A day after producing driver Ashok Singh, who claimed responsibility for driving the car at the time of the accident, the defence filed an application on Tuesday declaring that it had concluded its evidence.
This means that Salman Khan’s lawyer presented only one defence witness in the case who owned up to the crime. The court thereafter directed the prosecution to begin with the final arguments from Wednesday. It refused the prosecution’s plea seeking time for a few days to prepare arguments.
The prosecution is likely to conclude its final arguments by next week, after which the defence will begin its final arguments. On Monday, Salman Khan’s driver Ashok Singh appeared before the court and claimed responsibility for the accident. He had said he had approached the court after Salman’s father Salim Khan had asked him to tell the truth to the court.
He denied that he received money to depose and confess to the crime. This was the first time the driver has claimed responsibility for the accident in which one was killed and four were injured.
