Wanted fugitive Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar’s nephew Alishah Parkar got married and then held a lavish reception on Wednesday, with the festivities being closely watched by the Mumbai police. Sources said that the Closed Circuit Television Camera (CCTV) footage at the Tulip Star hotel, where the reception was held, might be examined later this week.
Alishah, the son of Kaskar’s late sister Haseena Parkar, got married to his fiancée Ayesha Nagani at a traditional nikaah ceremony held at the Rasool Mohalla in Nagpada at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
The police imposed bandobast around the mosque to ensure that the attention focused on the event did not interfere with the ceremony. Scores of people gathered outside the mosque for a glimpse of the bride and the groom due to the hype surrounding the event.
The bandobast was heavier around the Tulip Star hotel in Juhu in the evening, where the reception was held. Sources said that there were more plainclothesmen than uniformed policemen outside both the venues to keep a tight watch on the events. License plate numbers of all the vehicles that entered the hotel premises were noted down and detailed notes were made every time a known face turned up. A detailed report of all the attendees is expected to be prepared by Thursday morning.
“Since the wedding is a private function, we don’t have any legal basis to ask the hotel to share its CCTV footage. We will take further course of action based on the people who attend the reception and whether any of them have antecedents that warrant a closer look,” a senior police officer said.
The police have also tapped into their informants and asked them to provide any and all information about the nikaah as well as the reception.
