Dalit youth killed allegedly by upper caste men

A teenage Dalit boy was hanged to death allegedly by three upper caste youth from his village in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district, the police said.

The incident happened on Monday morning in Khada village in Ahmednagar. The police claim that the boy had gone to meet a female friend who belonged to a higher caste, when he was spotted by her brother who objected to the relationship.

“When the brother saw them together, he called two more of his friends. They beat up the boy and then hung him from a tree,” Superintendent of Police, Ahmednagar, Mr. RD Shinde told The Hindu. 

The three accused, identified as Sheshrao Yevlekar, Sachin Golekar and a minor have been booked for murder. They have also been charged and under various sections of Prevention of Atrocities Act. They have been remanded to police custody for the next seven days.
