CR, WR propose to install more ATMs

September 18, 2016 12:00 am | Updated November 01, 2016 07:15 pm IST - Mumbai:

In the next two weeks, the Western Railway (WR) and the Central Railway (CR) will be leasing out space to banks to install more automated teller machines (ATMs) at suburban and non-suburban stations on their network. The WR is planning to increase the number of ATMs by 81, while the CR will re-issue tenders for 42 locations.

Between April and August, the WR has earned Rs. 1,094 crore from fares and Rs. 34.11 crore in non-fare revenue. In the same period, the CR has earned Rs. 1,200 crore from fares and Rs. 25 crore in non-fare revenue, according to officials.

“The major contributor in the non-fare section is advertisements, which has fetched Rs. 24 crore. The Western line has 102 ATMs across its stations, which have fetched Rs. 4.07 crore revenue in the five-month period. Considering it is the second major contributor to the non-fare revenue, we are planning to increase the numbers,” said Mukul Jain, Divisional Railway Manager of WR. Space at 45 locations in the city’s railway colonies have also been included in the WR’s plan.

Additionally, the WR is planning to increase car-parking spaces by using almost 4,500 square metres of unused space at its stations. It has also tied up with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation to set up Food Plazas at Borivli, Vasai and Virar stations.
