Mumbai: The bail plea of the two managers of 1Above, arrested in connection with the fire at Kamala Mills, was rejected by the Bhoiwada court on Thursday, after their defence lawyer forgot to sign the bail application.

The duo, Kevin Bawa and Lisbon Lopez, were arrested on January 1.

Their lawyer, advocate Vijay Thakur, filed a bail plea on Thursday. However, Judge V.P Bohra, after checking the application, saw that he had not signed it, after which he decided to reschedule the hearing.

After repeated requests by Mr. Thakur, the Judge agreed to hear his argument.

“Mr. Lopez was on an important call when he saw the owners of the pub running out, and on their way, they informed him about the fire. They asked him to help Mr. Bawa to evacuate the place, after which the managers alerted the customers and helped 136 of them get out,” Mr. Thakur said.

Judge Bora, however, rejected the bail plea because of Mr. Thakur’s failure to sign the application.

“My brother is innocent, but I don’t know how to prove it. We aren’t that influential but we’re truthful,” said Mr. Bawa’s sister Manpreet.
