The Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the Senior Police Inspector of Kurla Railway Police station to file reply to a petition alleging violation of law by the police in the investigation of Andhra Pradesh techie’s murder. The police on Monday claimed to have solved the case.
The petition alleged that the police violated rules laid down in the Bombay Police Manual, while investigating the case. It sought a direction that accountability of the contravention should be fixed, so that guilty police officers can be punished.
“The police are trying to cover-up the matter. Till responsibility is not fixed, cases like this will happen day in and day out,” petitioner Abha Singh told the court.
According to the petition, the police filed a missing complaint four days after the techie went missing, despite the family approaching them on the very first day.
Ms. Singh said that the police also failed to invoke abduction charges.
“The family had to go to Vijayawada to file the missing complaint. The Mumbai Police registered a complaint only on the January 8 after Vijayawada police sent a mail to them. The techie had gone missing on the 5th itself,” Ms. Singh said.
The government pleader said the police initiated some action soon after the family approached the railway police.
