Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Monday opposed the bail pleas filed by Mojo Bistro’s owner Yug Pathak and 1Above owners Jigar Sanghvi, Kripesh Sanghvi and Abhijit Mankar at the Bhoiwada court. All the four are accused in the Kamala Mills fire that killed 14 people and injured 59 on December 29, last year.
The police contended that if the bail was granted, they might tamper with the evidence or influence the witnesses. The prosecutor said that the documents needed to run the restaurants are yet to be handed over to the police. Another reason for opposing the bail is that the accused may fly out of the country.
Family members of those who lost their lives in the fire had also filed interventions opposing the bail. Two of them were filed by the Lalwani family and the Lakdawala family.
Mr. Pathak’s lawyer Rizwan Merchant said no private party can be allowed to intervene at this stage.
Meanwhile, the co-owner of Mojo’s Bistro, Yug Tulli, was sent to judicial custody with the others till January 31. They have been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
