Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation wants to start structural repairs on the Lalbaug flyover at Bharatmata Junction. It has shortlisted a contractor for the job which will cost around ₹21 crore. A proposal for this will be put up before the standing committee at its meeting on Wednesday
The Bombay High Court, while hearing a PIL filed by an activist, had on March 23, 2017, directed the BMC to carry out structural repairs to the flyover at Bharatmata junction. The PIL citied the poor condition of the flyover within five years of its inauguration. It also said that the civic body was giving a ₹12 crore contract for resurfacing the flyover without conducting a structural audit.
As part of the hearing, the court had directed BMC to conduct structural repairs at this junction.
The civic body has shortlisted M/s Fresinet Prestressed Concrete Co. Ltd for the job that quoted 11% less than BMC estimates. Thus, the contract cost works out to around ₹21 crore. The contractor will get six months (excluding monsoon) to complete the job. The contractor is expected to repair expansion joints, bearing and also carry out work to strengthen the flyover.
