Constable dismissed for possession of contraband

Days after a constable with the Mumbai police was arrested for possession of banned substances Mephedrone or M-Cat, commonly known as meo meo drug, the police has initiated his dismissal process.

According to the police, constable Dharma Karokhe attached with the intelligence wing of the Marine Drive police station in South Mumbai was on leave claiming that his father had passed away when the Satara police arrested him for possession of the banned substances on Monday.

Acting on a tip off the Satara police had carried out a raid at a place close to Mr. Karokhe residence in Khandala taluka in Satara. He was detained by the police on Monday and subsequently arrested after a cache of drug was found at his residence. The information was shared with the counterparts in Mumbai who then searched his locker and drug 12 kg of drug white crystal translucent type was seized which was from the personal almiraah , the police said.

"The Commissioner of Police has directed me to initiate an action under article 311 (2) for dismissal of the constable for his unbecoming of a police personnel act from the department," Additional Commissioner of Police, Krishna Prakash told The Hindu .

The police is now probing how the contraband was smuggled into the police station and how nobody took notice of the brazen manner in which the constable stored the drug in the police station.
