The Centre for South Asia at Flame University in Pune will organise a unique conference on song-texts in India. Aptly titled ‘Shabd aur Sangeet — Unravelling Song-Texts in the Indian situation’, the conference will be mentored by Shubha Mudgal and Aneesh Pradhan.

The conference, which will take place on January 21 and 22, 2017, will focus on the study of song-texts with a discussion on topics such as musicology, ethnomusicology, linguistics, literary studies and phonology. It’s a noteworthy initiative given that oral traditions predate handwritten manuscripts or printed compilations in India, and since our country has a vast legacy of poets with a varied literary impulse.

Detailed information about the conference and participation is available at www.flame.edu.in/centre-for-south-asia-international-conference-2017. Last date for submission of abstract is September 30, 2016. For further queries, please write to songtextconference@ flame.edu.in
