Railway commuters on the Harbour Line staged a protest and refused to let a train proceed after an incorrect announcement at Wadala station on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m., when a Panvel-bound local was erroneously announced as a Bandra train. The Bandra local had, in fact, been cancelled. A few commuters headed towards Bandra realised that the train was moving in the wrong direction and stopped it.
They got off onto the tracks to stage the protest.
Railway officials said there was a minor error on part of the announcer, but added that the indicator on the platform had correctly displayed the destination as Panvel. Officials said the delay caused by the protest did not have any impact on other services.
Commuters were already irate since services were following a technical problem around 8.30 a.m. Railway officials said the snag caused a delay of about five to 10 minutes during rush hour.
While the issue was resolved quickly, by some accounts, services were running around 15 minutes late, leading to crowding of trains.
However, officials said the technical snag did not affect services to Bandra or Andheri; the impact was limited to the Harbour and Trans-Harbour network alone.
