Encroachments along water pipelines to be cleared

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis gave his in-principle approval to the proposal of the BMC to construct a cycle track in the city.

A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said the cycle track will be built by clearing all encroachments along water pipelines in Mumbai, which will open a 100-metre wide corridor on both sides.

“After the completion of this ₹300-crore project in 18 months, it will create the shortest route connecting north-south and east-west Mumbai,” the CMO statement said.

It will have 40 entry and exit points and will connect to 19 railway, seven Metro and four Monorail stations. It will have a Bollywood walk, biodiversity corridor and a Mumbai books route, it added.

The BMC has been working on creating infrastructure, especially for pedestrians and cyclists across the city. During his budget speech earlier this year, BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta had announced a cycling and pedestrian track from Bandra fort till the Bandra-Worli Sea Link as part of its beautification plan for forts.
