Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray are both making night rounds of the city to inspect public works in progress.

While Mr. Thackeray is checking the progress of pre-monsoon works on roads and nullah-cleaning by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), ruled by his party, the Chief Minister is inspecting work on the Metro corridors.

Mr. Thackeray, who has been doing this exercise for a few years now, tweeted on Wednesday, “I accompanied the Mayor for inspection of the various roads taken up this year for resurfacing to make them pothole and paver block free. As for the past 5 years, the road visits have helped us understand the situation of road works, hurdles and set deadlines for ongoing work.”

The Chief Minister, meanwhile, travelled to the western suburbs in the early hours of Wednesday along with MMRDA officials. “CM @Dev_Fadnavis witnessed placement of viaduct for Metro line 7 at Pathanwadi in Malad Mumbai with senior MMRDA officials,” tweeted the official handle of the Chief Minister’s office.

“I salute the people of Mumbai who are suffering traffic jams and diversions because of Metro work. But let me assure [citizens] that this will turn into seamless traffic in a few years. The project work is at great speed, and soon this city will have a Metro network at its service,” said Mr. Fadnavis.

Sources close to both leaders said the visits were planned at night to avoid security issues and other problems.
