Mumbai: It was a lucky escape for 30-year-old Vinod Laxman Chandanshive, who slipped and fell from the platform while trying to board a running train at Parel railway station on Wednesday. Two constables of the Railway Protection Force pulled him out of the gap between the platform and the train.

At around 8.50 a.m. on Wednesday, Mr. Chandanshive, who works as a ward boy in KEM Hospital, was on his way home in Dombivali after finishing a night shift. “I saw the fast train coming, which slowed down. I ran to board the train,” he said. However, a packet of dosa and chutney Mr. Chandanshive was taking home for his children fell onto the platform. He slipped on it and lost his balance.

RPF head constable V.S. Tayade and C.T. Manoj Prasad rushed to help him and pulled him out of the gap. “The RPF police staff saved my life. I am very thankful to him,” Mr. Chandanshive said. He was discharged with minor injuries after receiving first aid at Dadar station.

Sachin Bhalode, senior divisional security commissioner, RPF, Central Railway, said, “Such incidents show the presence of mind of the individual, and both the constables showed courage and saved the passenger. We will surely recommend them for rewards.”
