Navi Mumbai: Fifteen auto drivers have been arrested in connection with the clash outside Kharghar railway station on Tuesday. While seven are from the Ekta Mitra Mandal auto union of Kharghar, eight are from the Taloja auto union.

A cross complaint was was registered on Tuesday night. “We have arrested those who have been named by the groups. There are at least 40 more who will be arrested after being identified from CCTV footage,” assistant police inspector Vikrant Tharkar from Kharghar police station said.

The accused were presented before court on Wednesday and remanded in police custody till November 24.

On Wednesday as well, autorickshaws remained off roads in Kharghar and Taloja, forcing people to depend on NMMT buses.

On Monday, a scuffle between the two unions led to a non-cognisable offence registered against them. On Tuesday, when the police visited the auto stand to sort out the differences, the unions resorted to stone-pelting and assault. Around 10 from each union received injuries.

The clash occurred owing to an argument over jurisdiction. While the Kharghar union claimed that the Taloja union has no rights to use the auto stand outside Kharghar railway station, the Taloja union said that the RTO has given them the permission to do their business in a 35-km radius.
