The residents of Chinchpada on Thursday demanded a probe against Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran and CIDCO for their negligence that led to the death of a woman in an accident on Panvel-Uran road on Wednesday.

Sachin Keni, a resident of Chinchpada, said: “The water pipeline along the road has been leaking for months now. Land filling work has also been going on for the rehabilitation of Project Affected People at the same place. This has led to water accumulating on the road. It looks like a pond now.

“We have been complaining to authorities to look into this issue, but nothing has been done. Every day bike skid here. Auto drivers also fear that their vehicles will turn turtle.”

Devidas Patil, a resident of Koprapada, said, “Two days ago, my brother met with an accident here and has been admitted to Vashi hospital. This doesn’t look like a road, but like riding in a pond.”

The villagers have given a written letter to Panvel City police demanding action against the authorities. “We have received the request and are investigating into the accident. If we find negligence on the part of authorities, we will register a case,” said Assistant Police Inspector S. Kadam.

On Wednesday, Sujata Hareshwar Patil (35) died when the bike driven by her husband hit a waterlogged pothole on the road. Patil, who was riding pillion, fell off the bike and died due to severe head injuries. She was brought dead to MGM Hospital in Kalamboli.
