The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Saturday submitted a charge sheet against former Mumbai Congress president Kripashankar Singh and his four family members in a disproportionate assets and corruption case. It was submitted to the Sessions Court department here.
According to sources, the charge sheet has named Kripashankar Singh, his wife Malti Devi, son Narendra Mohansingh, son-in-law Vijay Singh and daughter-in-law Ankita Singh as the accused.
A Special Investigation Team involving officers of the EOW and Income Tax department was formed to investigate charges of forgery, corruption and massive disproportionate benami assets against the politician and his family. The Bombay High Court had directed the Mumbai Police to prosecute him under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
An FIR was filed against Mr. Singh and his family members under various sections of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act including Section 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), Section 420 (cheating), Section 467 (forgery of valuable security).
EOW officials on Saturday declined to make any official statement on the matter.
Sources said that since the court department is already dealing with a few other charge sheets, it may take over a week to number this charge sheet and assign it to a particular court. It will be filed thereafter.
A PIL petition was filed in the Bombay High Court nearly three years ago, seeking probe against the politician and his family for allegedly amassing benami assets worth several hundred crores.
