Maharashtra Home Minister R. R. Patil said on Monday that a detailed report over repeated paroles given to actor Sanjay Dutt will be sent to the Union Home Ministry. The Centre had sought a report from the Maharashtra government on why Mr. Dutt has been granted parole thrice within less than a year of being sent to jail.
The actor is serving a six-year jail term in Yerwada jail, Pune, for illegal possession of arms in connection with the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai. "We will send a detailed report to the Centre within two to three days. We will inquire the basis on which the Divisional Commissioner of Pune and the police granted him parole," said Mr. Patil.
The Maharashtra Home Minister added that the government will also think over the possibility of changing parole rules. Mr. Dutt was first granted parole in December 2013 in order to attend to his ailing wife Manyata. Since then, the actor had received two extensions and will remain outside jail till March 21, 2014.
