Alibaba-backed mobile wallet, Paytm has named Shinjini Kumar as the chief executive officer (CEO) of its payments bank, which is expected to start operations this year.

Ms Kumar is currently with PwC as its executive director and is expected to join Paytm in March, banking industry sources said.

She had worked in Reserve Bank of India for close to 16 years before moving to Bank of America as country compliance head in December 2007. She joined PwC in October 2010.

Paytm has to take approval from Reserve Bank of India for the appointment of its chief executive, as is the case with commercial banks. Paytm officials were not available for comment.
