BJP leaders tight-lipped on Rane joining party

Mumbai: Senior BJP leaders on Monday remained non-committal on Narayan Rane entering the party even as he headed for Delhi to meet party president Amit Shah.

BJP State unit chief Raosaheb Danve said the meeting on Monday night was not political in nature. He said Mr. Rane had invited the BJP chief to Sindhudurg to inaugurate a hospital.

Sources close to the rebel Congress leader have indicated that he may form an independent front with an aim of damaging the prospects of the Congress in the upcoming polls.

Last week, Mr. Rane quit the Congress and resigned from his MLC post, but he did not specify whether he would join the BJP or remain an independent.
