Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Police Crime Branch’s central unit has arrested an accused for stealing bikes and selling them as vehicles auctioned by finance companies. The accused, identified as Shailesh alias Sujit Shah (20), a resident of Ambernath, was arrested from Airoli on Friday, based on a tip-off. A total of 11 cases of vehicle theft registered this year have been solved with his arrest, and 13 bikes have been recovered. Of these, four were recovered from people who believed Shah and bought them from him.

PSI Pradeep Sarfare, Crime Branch central unit, said, “He would tell prospective buyers that formalities like proper documents would take time and would quote very low prices. The rest of the bikes were recovered from an isolated spot in Digha. Shah has previous cases against him with Bhayandar and Wagle Estate police and was arrested earlier.”

Police said he has previously worked as a delivery boy with courier companies and lived in Thane, Vasai and Virar. He has targeted bikes from those areas as well. Originally from Gujarat, Shah will be now handed over to Thane and Kalyan police.
