The bike ambulance service launched by the Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services has attended to a record 823 calls since its launch on August 2.

The emergency first responder medical service can be availed of by dialling the helpline 108. On dialling the number, bike ambulances with teams of paramedics will provide emergency care. The service is available in 10 areas in the city, including Bhandup, Mankhurd, Dharavi, Nagpada, Malad, Charkop, Goregaon, Thakur Village, Kalina and Khar Danda.

The service was launched by the Department of Public Health and National Health is being implemented by BVG India. The bike ambulances are equipped with a medical kit, trauma medical management kit and airway management kit.

Dr. Dnyaneshwar Shelke, COO, MEMS 108, said: “The addition of bikes to the existing fleet of 108 ambulances has improved access to emergency care. It has saved lives by reducing the response time to emergencies.”
