Saquib Nachan, former Secretary of banned outfit Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and accused in the 2002-03 triple blasts in Mumbai, was on Thursday granted bail by the Bombay High Court in the 2012 Bhiwandi firing case. Mr. Nachan has been booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the case.

The court granted bail to Mr Nachan on bail bond of Rs 15,000, and granted a stay of three weeks to the order, on prosecution’s request. The State of Maharashtra wants to challenge the order in the Supreme Court.

Mr. Nachan has been accused of involvement in the murder conspiracy of a VHP activist and lawyer Manoj Raicha. Mr. Raicha was shot in Bhiwandi in Thane district on August 3, 2012, by two men on a bike. He had sustained minor injuries.
