Navi Mumbai: The seventh accused identified as Kamlesh Mishra was arrested in Uttar Pradesh in connection with the Bank of Baroda heist in Juinagar. The police have so far recovered valuables weighing 2 kg worth around ₹58 lakh.

Investigations have revealed that the conspirators are from Mumbai and they had hired men from Uttar Pradesh to dig the tunnel.

On Monday, Crime Branch sleuths arrested Wadala resident Moinudeen Shaikh in Kolkata, one of the conspirators. According to sources, Shaikh along with a wanted accused Deepak Mishra, a Nalasopara resident, had planned the theft. Shaikh and Mishra have committed crimes in Mumbai and Pune. “The full picture will be clear after the arrest of all the accused,” said a police officer, who did not want to be named.

Kamlesh Mishra, who is suspected to be a cousin of Deepak Mishra, was hired for the digging work. Even as Gena Bachan Prasad, the one who rented the shop is yet to be arrested, it is believed that his role was only of getting a shop on rent.

“In such cases, a shop beside the bank is chosen, but in this case, they could not get one and had to hire a shop two shops away. After they started the digging, they realised that the work was time-consuming so they had to hire two more,” said the officer.

Ramesh Wagh, a jeweller from Malegaon, was arrested on Monday and 1.3 kg gold was recovered from him. He confessed to have given some gold to another jeweller named Santosh Wagh near Nashik.
