The husband of the 25-year-old woman whose body was found at Juhu beach on Wednesday, was arrested for her murder on Thursday.

The man, an autorickshaw driver, had packed her body in a nylon bag and dumped it into the sea.

Tattoo was a clue

The Santacruz police said they identified the body as that of Shakuntala Sahu, a resident of Shastri Nagar Versova, after going through missing persons complaints and with the help of a tattoo on the body. The police then picked up her husband, Prabhuprasad Sahu, from the couple’s home.

The husband revealed that he suspected Shakuntala of having an affair, and the couple often fought about it .

Fit of rage

In a fight on Tuesday night, Prabhuprasad beat her up badly, and in a fit of rage, strangled her. He put her body in a nylon bag and put it in his autorickshaw. Late on Tuesday, he reached an isolated spot in Juhu and dumped the body in the sea.

Prabhuprasad has been booked for murder and will be produced in court on Friday, the police said.

On Wednesday morning, a passerby had called the Santacruz police, informing them of a woman’s body lying on Juhu beach. The police had reached the spot and found that the body had injuri marks and blood stains on her face.
