Allies at war over LED lights in Mumbai

Piyush Goyal seeks to counter ‘malicious campaign’ by Shiv Sena

March 25, 2015 02:34 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:12 pm IST - MUMBAI:

Lashing out at the BJP’s ally, the Shiv Sena, for its “malicious campaign” against the installation of LED lights in Mumbai, Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said there were attempts to create misconceptions about the project.

Without taking names, Mr. Goyal lambasted the Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece, the Saamna , which has been regularly criticising the BJP’s project of installing LED lights on Marine Drive.

Mr. Goyal released a feedback survey by auditing giant PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) on the use of LED lights along the Marine Drive. The survey comprised 2,000 randomly selected respondents — joggers, residents, shopkeepers, hawkers, students, security personnel, motorists.

Seventy-nine percent respondents were satisfied with the LED lights.
