Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar made a gaffe on Monday saying the State government would approach the Prime Minister to request for a ban on social media.

However, he quickly retracted, saying the government had no intention of banning social media. “The irresponsible use of social media has resulted in the outbreak of violence in Maharashtra. China had banned such media for two years. All parties should come together on this issue,” he said in the Assembly.
