All India Bakchod’s Tanmay Bhat, Gursimran Khamba and Ashish Shakya made a surprise entry in the YouTube FanFest 2015 on Friday.
The trio who came up on stage to receive YouTube’s golden play button — presented to channels that cross the one million subscriber mark — were visibly overwhelmed by the support they received form the audience. To show their support to the group, the excited crowd began chanting the name of their recent show — Roast — which landed the group in trouble with the moral police.
YouTube FanFest Mumbai edition, which took place at the NSCI Indoor Stadium in Worli, was an event clearly aimed at the enthusiastic tweens and teens, eager to see their Internet heroes in the flesh.
The evening was hosted by techie-turned-comics Kannan Gill and Biswa Kalyan, known for their YouTube series ‘Pretentious Movie Reviews’.
Canadian-Punjabi comic JusReign opened the line up with trying to finding a “wife” among three volunteers by giving them a rhyme test. This was followed by several acts of varying quality by musicians, comics and fashion bloggers. Musician Shankar Tucker collaborated with Maati Baani’s fellow YouTube stars for an enjoyable performance.
On the sidelines, video fashion bloggers Scherezade Shroff, Sonal Sagaraya and Elton Fernandez were giving a makeover to a winner chosen from a contest run by them on their YouTube channels.
Instances of fans screaming out to their favourite stars to marry them or chanting their names was a recurrent feature throughout the long evening.
But none received as much adulation and screams as much as Indo-Canadian comic Lilly Singh aka YouTube sensation ‘Superwoman’ and Bethany Mota, the teen who shot to fame through her fashion and style videos.
Lilly Singh used the stage to break the news about her upcoming world tour titled ‘A Trip To Unicorn Island’, that begins from India. She will perform at Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad as part of her India tour.
