Mumbai: Days after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a rally in Maharashtra, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday announced that it will contest all elections in the State.

“The AAP has appointed observers in over 230 Assembly constituencies. The party has around 10,000 active volunteers, and we are enrolling new members,” said former Lok Sabha MP Brigadier Sudhir Sawant, who recently joined the AAP.

Mr. Sawant said the party will contest the local body, Assembly, and Lok Sabha polls.

“The State is caught between the evils of Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress. None of these parties have a vision for development. We want to do the politics of development,” he said.

On Friday, an AAP delegation will be visiting former bureaucrat Vijay Pandhare in Buldhana where he is on a fast against the anti-farmer policies of the government. The delegation will also be visiting Yavatmal district in Vidarbha where over 20 farmers have lost their lives due to pesticides sprayed on crops.

“Our politics will be for farmers and workers. The so-called growth is not ensuring employments. The party will try to be the voice of all,” said Mr Sawant.

After contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the AAP did not contest any major poll in the State as the then existing governing body of the party was dissolved.

Despite wide speculation, the party did not contest the Mumbai civic polls.
