No material to declare Sanatan Sanstha a terror organisation: Centre tells HC

Mumbai: The Centre once again told the Bombay High Court on Tuesday that it has not found any satisfactory material to declare right wing outfit Sanatan Sanstha a terror organisation.

A Division Bench of Justice V.M. Kanade and Justice P.R. Bora was hearing a PIL filed by Vijay Rokade seeking to declare Sanatan Sanstha a terror organisation under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. The PIL said the members of the Sanstha were involved in bombings in Panvel and Thane.

Narendra Dabholkar, an author and rationalist who championed the issue of black magic and superstition, was murdered in Pune in August 2013, and the CBI had told the HC it was probing the role of the Sanstha in the murder.

In 2012, the Anti-Terrorism Squad had requested the Centre to include the Sanstha as a terrorist organisation. On October 27, the Centre told the HC it does not have enough evidence to declare it a terrorist organisation.

The matter has now been adjourned to March 7.
