Navi Mumbai: The Nerul police are on the lookout for Suresh Anant Bhor, a driver, who allegedly killed his wife on Monday and fled from their residence.

Bhor lived with his wife, Vaishali Suresh Bhor (34), their 13-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son on the third floor of Baliram Niwas in Sector 23, Juinagar. According to the police, Bhor suspected Vaishali of having an affair and often quarrelled with her. On Monday, when the children were in school, he allegedly killed her and fled.

The incident came to light when their landlord’s wife, who lives on the second floor of the same building, visited Bhor’s flat.

“The landlord’s wife and Vaishali had planned to go vegetable shopping together. She saw that the flat was latched from outside, but the television was on at a high volume inside. To check if anyone was at home, she opened the latch and found Vaishali sitting on a mat with her legs straight, head resting on the knees, and messy hair. She also saw blood on the mat,” Assistant Police Inspector Manish Kolhatkar said. “She tried to wake Vaishali up, but realised she was not breathing. She alerted the neighbours and the police,” Mr. Kolhatkar said.

The children told the police that their father would usually come home drunk at night, quarrel with their mother and also assault her.

On Saturday, too, the couple had fought as usual. When their daughter had tried to intervene, Bhor had beaten her up, prompting Vaishali to attack him.

A similar fight had happened on Sunday as well, Mr. Kolhatkar said.
