Thousands of fans looking forward to a performance by Davis Guetta, a two-time Grammy award-winning DJ, were left disappointed, with the Mumbai Police denying permission to the organisers, Sunburn, to hold the event at the Bandra Kurla Complex on Friday.

The venue of the event, first scheduled to be held at Mahalaxmi Race course, had to be shifted after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation refused permission. On Thursday the French DJ’s show in Bengalure too was cancelled after the police denied permission.

The Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Ashok Dudhe said the organisers had failed to fulfil the requisite criteria.

“The organisers approached us at very short notice and did not furnish any details about the event, its security and their arrangements for traffic management. Our deployment and other measures for any event are dependent on the measures undertaken by the organisers, and it was not possible for us to deploy bandobast at such short notice,” said Mr. Dudhe. The organisers, he added, also did not provide the requisite NoCs from other concerned departments, or visa details of the foreigners performing at the concert.

BMC officials said they denied permission for the Mahalaxmi Racecourse event for similar reasons. “The organisers had not obtained permission from the fire department.”

Mr. Dudhe said that for any event, especially one where thousands of people are expected to attend, deployment of personnel needed to start hours before the event. The organisers approached the police only late on Thursday night, he said.

In a late night statement a spokesperson for the organisers said, the event has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday at the BKC. “We are complying with all the regulatory requirements as prescribed by the authorities,” the statement added.
