Mumbai: Two goldsmiths were robbed of gold and cash in broad daylight on Friday by four unidentified men, police said. They added that the miscreants had made off with 450 grams of gold worth ₹12.75 lakh and ₹80,000 in cash that the victims were taking to their workshop in Panvel.

The gold belonged to a jeweller in Sector 36, Kamothe and some other clients of the complainant, Goraknath Shinde, 30. As per the complaint filed with Kamothe police station, Mr Shinde and his partner were headed to the workshop to check the gold’s purity and repair the ornaments. Their bike was stopped by the miscreants in a car and riding a bike in Sector 22, Kamothe, who assaulted them with iron rods before fleeing with the gold and cash.

Senior PI Ashok Naik, Kamothe police station, said, “The accused were well aware of the complainants’ profession and route. The accused might have kept a watch on them over a period of time and planned the robbery. We have received CCTV footage of the incident from that area and are investigating the case.” During the robbery, the accused verbally abused them in Marathi usually spoken in Satara, the complainants told the police. “Since the accused had used the local language of Satara, we will also be checking records of history-sheeters in Pune and Satara,” Mr. Naik said. The accused had not covered their faces, he added.
