Congress says Sena, BJP in a friendly fight

MUMBAI: The Congress on Monday came out strongly against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accusation of having a deal with the Shiv Sena to defeat the BJP in Mumbai.

City Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam, who was earlier with the Sena, said, “The BJP and the Sena are playing a friendly match even while being in the government. They are likely to join hands in the corporation post elections. The split between the BJP and the Sena and fighting independently is actually an hogwash to prevent real issues from coming to the fore.” Both the parties have run the corporation together and are equally part of the corruption in the civic body. He challenged an open debate with the BJP of specific wards where match fixing has been alleged. Mr. Nirupam hit out at Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for seeking to find issues affecting Mumbaikars. “It’s really unfortunate that they still do not know the issues concerning the people of Mumbai and what they really want. All this exercise is just a pretence.”

The Congress leader also said the Congress core voters are regretting having voted for the BJP in 2014 and are returning to the fold.
