An 85-year-old man died at 9 a.m. on Thursday after falling off the balcony of his flat on the 21st floor of an apartment in Upvan in Thane.

The Vartak Nagar police said watchmen at Neelkanth Heights heard a loud thud and found Firoz Gandhi lying on the ground in a pool of blood. Gandhi was rushed to Thane Civil Hospital where he was declared dead before admission due to multiple injuries.

Senior Police Inspector Pradip Giridhar said, “Gandhi’s wife, son-in-law and granddaughter stay in another wing in the same building while Gandhi stayed alone. His daughter said in her statement said Gandhi offered Suryanamaskar every morning. He might have lost his balance while praying in the balcony and toppled over the railing.”
