A 76-year-old businessman and avid biker died in a bike accident on Old Mumbai-Pune Highway near Ghodivli phata in Khalapur at 9 a.m. on Monday.

Naozer Aga, a resident of Nepean Sea Road, was riding his Kawasaki Ninja ZX–10R towards Pune when he hit a speed breaker and crashed into the divider.

Khalapur police said his helmet broke in the impact of the crash and he died instantly owing to head injuries. Villagers rushed Aga to a primary health centre in Khalapur, but he was declared dead on arrival.

Armand, Aga’s son, refuted the police’s claims that the speed breaker had been marked. He said, “When we reached the place the speed breaker was being painted. My father went on bike rides every weekend on the same road. He knew the road in and out. The accident took place only because of the new speed breaker.”
