Mumbai: Seven persons including a woman and a teenager were injured after a portion of a ground-plus-one chawl they were residing in collapsed in /Govandi on Sunday evening, civic officials said.
“The entire first floor of the structure in Rafi Nagar, Govandi collapsed around 6 p.m. Seven people who were in the house at the time of the incident received injuries and have been admitted to Rajawadi Hospital,” officials of BMC’s Disaster Control Room said. Fire Brigade officials said the incident was reported to them at 6.12 p.m. and two fire engines and an ambulance were deployed for rescue operations.
The on-duty Assistant Medical Officer at Rajawadi Hospital said three patients were treated for minor injuries and did not require to be admitted. “Four others, including a woman, have been admitted. They are stable,” he said, adding patients were brought in at 8 p.m. to the hospital. “We are carrying out tests to understand the nature of injuries and fractures, if any.”
Civic officials said the collapsed structure was located between Shivaji Nagar police station and Rasool Masjid. The BMC said in a statement that those admitted to Rajawadi Hospital were Shabir Shaikh (15), Badrunisa Shaikh (48) and Tayum Shaikh (40). Murar Shaikh (35), Abdul Kuldas (20) and Salim Shaikh (30) were discharged after first aid.
