Mumbai: On the eve of municipal elections, ₹60 lakh in cash was seized from a private vehicle in Bhiwandi on Tuesday. The Thane police said a Tavera was stopped and searched during a routine check by officials of the Election Commission at Sai Baba junction.

EC officials informed the Shanti Nagar police and the vehicle and its three occupants were taken to the police station. “A total of ₹60 lakh was found, but we can not comment on whether it was going to be used or misused for the polls. The EC is conducting inquiries. No case has been registered,” said Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone II.
