The accused abandoned the victim outside the Ghansoli railway station and fled on Monday night.

A 28-year-old woman was raped by her brother’s friend and his partner in a car near Ghansoli railway station on Monday night. A case was registered against the two accused with Rabale MIDC police on Tuesday. They are yet to be arrested. They were charged under Sections 376 (g) (gangrape), 504 (insult with the intend to provoke breach of peace), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.

The complainant, a resident of Mazgaon, said her brother had given ₹15 lakh to his friend, Nijamuddin Sayyed (38), to transact business, but he returned only ₹9 lakh. The girl was in need of money and asked Sayyed to return the remaining amount. Sayyed had been a regular visitor at the complainant’s house and she knew him very well.

An officer from Rabale MIDC police station said, “On Monday, the accused, a Mumbra resident, asked the victim to come to Vashi railway station to collect the money. Sayyed and his friend asked the victim to get inside their car at Vashi railway station. They headed for Ghansoli and on the way Sayyed started molesting the victim. Once they reached Ghansoli railway station at around 9.30 p.m., Sayyed and his friend raped her in the car. They abandoned her outside the station and fled.”

The victim called up the Navi Mumbai Control Room for help and immediately a Police Control Room van with women police staff reached the spot and attended to the girl.

The officer said, “As per the victim’s complaint, we have registered the case and are investigating it further. We are trying to procure CCTV footage of the area where the incident took place.”
