Two people were injured on Thursday in two separate incidents in Navi Mumbai after a row broke out over bursting firecrackers.
In the first incident, four people were booked for attempt to murder after they stabbed their neighbour who asked them not to burst crackers outside his house. Of the four charged, three have been arrested. The police said that Kumar Khinkarki and his younger brother Santosh, who stayed at Khairane village in Panvel, were attacked by four neighbours on Thursday night. The accused have been identified as Narayan Buro (30), Biju Buro (21), Rohit Buro (20), and Pintu, who is absconding. All four hail from Assam and work in factories in Taloja. The police said that the accused burst crackers outside the Khinkarkis home when they were away. When they returned, Santosh asked the accused not to burst crackers outside their house.
Assistant Police Inspector Kiran Shaligram from Panvel Taluka police station said, “Later at night while the brothers were about to have dinner, the four accused attacked Santosh. The accused stabbed Kumar when he intervened and tried to protect his brother. Kumar is undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital and is said to be in a serious condition. We have booked all four on the charge of attempt to murder.”
In another incident, Imran Akbar Shaikh (24) was arrested at Sector 3 in Ghansoli for assaulting Haresh Lalji Patel (28) following an argument over bursting firecrackers. On Thursday night, Patel was bursting firecrackers with his cousin outside Ambe Prerna building, while Shaikh was chatting with friends nearby. When a few sparks from the fireworks fell on the group, Shaikh shouted at Patel. He told him strictly not to burst firecrackers in the area. They had an argument which ended in a fight.
An officer said, “In a fit of rage, Shaikh attcaked Patel with a rod. Patel was severely injured and admitted to the NMMC Hospital in Vashi. Patel filed a complaint after he was discharged. Shaikh was arrested on Friday.”
