Navi Mumbai: The Nerul police have arrested two carpenters for allegedly burgling houses to splurge money on their girlfriends. The accused, identified as Mohammad Sohail Abdul Halim Khan (28) from Palghar and Yatin Pravin Sindroja (30) from Andheri, would do a recee of flats and target them when the owners are away.
“The duo worked as carpenters and took up work in flats. They would target them when the flats were locked,” assistant police inspector Rajesh Gajjal said. The accused had at least three girlfriends at a time. The money earned by carpentry was insufficient, and hence they wanted to make quick money. Usually, after the theft, the accused used to sell off valuables and use the money to buy gifts and take their girlfriends out, the police said.
“The duo had cases with the D.N. Nagar police, Palghar, Sanpada, APMC, and the NRI Coastal police. Under our jurisdiction, they have committed three house break-ins,” senior police inspector Ashok Rajput from Nerul police station said.
The police have recovered 81 grams of gold. They were arrested under Sections 454 (house tresspass), 457 (house tresspass at night), and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the IPC.
