14-year-old dies after tree falls on him

Mumbai: A 14-year-old boy lost his life on Tuesday after a tree fell on him when he was passing by, in the Naval Officers Residential Area (NOFRA) in Colaba.

According to the police, the incident occurred near the Somnath Vatika building in NOFRA on Tuesday afternoon. Police said the deceased, Rahul Vipan Kumar, was the son of Colonel Vipan Kumar Madanmohan, who is posted as a medical surgeon at the INS Ashvini Naval Hospital in Colaba.

“Rahul was on his way to meet his schoolmates when the tree, which had become hollow due to termite infestation, fell on him and injured him on the head. Passers-by rushed him to INS Ashvini, where he was declared dead before admission,” said Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Rashmi Karandikar.

The Colaba police were subsequently informed about the incident and Rahul’s body was taken to G.T. Hospital near Crawford Market for post mortem examination. The report indicated death due to head injury. The Colaba police have registered an accidental death report in the matter.
