‘100 days not enough to judge performance’

Chief Minister blames corrupt legacy of previous government

February 08, 2015 02:52 am | Updated April 02, 2016 02:46 am IST - MUMBAI:

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said 100 days were not enough to evaluate his government’s performance, and it could only give an indication of positive mindset with which he has started work.

“The previous government (of the Congress-NCP) handed us a corrupt system with policy paralysis and a State which is burdened with debt. We have begun taking bold decisions and the results will be out soon,” said Mr. Fadnavis told the media here.

Mr. Fadnavis defended the multiple tolls on State’s roads, claiming the BJP had never promised ‘toll-free’ State; it was only a concept of his party, he said, not part of the party’s poll manifesto.

“We are probing all toll agreements of the previous government. These agreements are one-sided and do not have a ‘buy-back’ option. But we want to assure that we will cancel a number of tolls booths,” he said.

Revenue deficit

Expressing concern over the revenue deficit which has ballooned to Rs. 26,000 crore, Mr. Fadnavis said the new government’s first budget would ensure that the figure was reduced.

He blamed the former government for farmers’ suicides.
