The Muslim Youth League (MYL) has said that portraying Muslim evangelist Zakir Naik as a terrorist is part of a hidden Sangh Parivar agenda meant to put the Muslim community in bad light and fuel Islamophobia. The MYL supported the stance of its parent organisation, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), in this regard.
MYL leaders, addressing a convention on ‘Missing youths and the concerns of Kerala’ at the Malabar Chamber of Commerce Hall here on Sunday, said the Left parties had made derogatory statements without understanding the IUML’s stance on the issue. The League extended moral support to Mr. Naik as he had no criminal background and the man was instrumental in preaching true Islam, they said.
P.M. Sadiq Ali, State president of the MYL, who clarified the youth organisation’s stance at the meeting, said propaganda was on against Zakir Naik for some time. The smear campaign was spearheaded by the Sangh Parivar forces, he said.

IUML leader Syed Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal said a few corporates and their media were trying to foment Islamophobia to achieve their secret goals. “The ideology of Islamic State can never be endorsed by a true Muslim. Their target is to cash in on spiritual terrorism by luring the discontented people to anti-Islam activities,” he said.
